Our Admissions Team have put together a selection of FAQs should any of these queries have crossed your mind whilst viewing our Virtual Tour.

What is the first step if I am interested?

Complete the virtual tour and register your daughter online via our application form.

Can I visit in person?

It is possible to arrange individual visits, though these are carefully regulated due to the present situation and take place outside school hours. Please discuss with our Admissions Team if interested

Is there any fee payable on registration?

A non-refundable registration fee is payable which is £100 per applicant or £250 per overseas applicant.

Are there any deadline dates?

There are no deadline dates.

What does the assessment involve?

Assessments for the Junior School take place throughout the year.

Assessments for each year group are carried out remotely by way of a Google Meet.

The assessment process for Nursery, Reception, Years 1 and 2 is fairly informal and consists of one-to-one focused activities with a teacher online.

For entry into Years 3 and above girls complete written assessments in English and Mathematics and have an informal online meeting with a teacher.

For entry into Years 1 and above, we ask you for a copy of your daughter’s most up to date school report.

How soon after the assessment will we hear if we have been offered a place?

We aim to get back to you within a week of the assessment taking place.

What documentation is required to accept a place and is any fee payable?

We require a Parent Contract signed by you as parents together with a non-refundable deposit of £1,000. Please note that £500 is credited to the first term’s fees and £500 is refunded at the end of your daughter’s education with us.

Can girls join the Junior School at any stage?

Yes, although entry to Year 6 is only considered in exceptional circumstances.

Is there a minimum age for entry to the Nursery?

Girls must be at least 3 years of age to start in Nursery and most girls join in the September following their third birthday. However, there is flexibility to accept applications for a pre-Nursery place should this be considered appropriate for your daughter.

Is the Nursery full time all year round?

Our Nursery is full time but during term time only. However, there is flexibility to agree a start in Nursery with a minimum attendance of three full days, term time only.

Are the Year 6 Junior School pupils assessed for entry to Year 7 of the Senior School?

Year 6 Junior School pupils are assessed for the move to Year 7 of the Senior School as part of our ongoing in-house assessment process.

What is the timing of the school day?

8.30 am to 3.30 pm for Nursery to Year 2 and 8.30 am to 3.45 pm for Year 3 to Year 6.

Do you accept childcare vouchers?

We accept childcare vouchers for payment of qualifying charges, i.e. school fees up to the age of 5 years and activities that take place on school premises and outside of school hours.

Do you offer before and after school care?

Yes, we offer before school care from 7.30 am to 8.30 am at a cost of £4 per session and after school care from 3.30 pm to 6.00 pm at a cost of £9 per session.

Are bursaries available in the Junior School?

No, bursaries are not available in the Junior School.

Are scholarships available in the Junior School?

No, scholarships are not available in the Junior School.

Do you offer a sibling discount?

We offer a 5% sibling discount for the eldest daughter when three students attend The Abbey at the same time.

Do you offer any dedicated transport options?

We use Horseman Coaches and TK Travel who both offer home to school coach routes. Click here for details.
